Electric Yard Care Tools Try Out Event!

The Portland and South Portland Sustainability Offices are hosting an event for residents to try out electric lawn tools and ask questions about sustainable land care!

Despite their size, small motor gasoline-powered equipment is highly polluting and significantly contributes to climate change. Not only is electric equipment better for the environment, your health, and your ears, but they are also easier to own and use. Visit the One Climate Future team at Mill Creek Park in South Portland on Saturday, May 11th from 9am – 10am to learn more about electric lawn tools and try out an electric lawn mower or string trimmer. The event is co-hosted with Greencare Landscape Management, a Scarborough-based landcare company that provides electric lawn care services for residential lawns.

No event registration is needed, just bring a mug for free coffee and any questions you may have about electric tools & sustainable land care.

Both Cities enforce landcare ordinances (restricting the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers) and implement programs that support sustainable landcare practices. Portland is currently offering up to $250 rebates per income-eligible Portland household for DIY home weatherization and electrification materials, including electric lawn equipment. The Sustainability Office is also hosting free summer "Landcare Lunchbreak" webinars about soil testing, urban water systems, winter lawn prep, and more. Learn more here.
